Michel Ducaroy was born in 1925 into a family of designers and furniture makers, involved in both private residences and larger projects such as liners, exhibitions, and official buildings. Drawing on this rich background, he trained at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Lyon and gained experience in the family business before establishing himself as an independent designer in 1952. After his first collaboration with the Roset company in 1954, Ducaroy quickly became one of their most vital designers. In the early years of Ligne Roset, he played a crucial role in advancing technological innovation. In 1968, he created one of the first modular all-foam chairs, the low-sitting Adria, followed by other notable designs like Kashima and Safi, which featured large cushions on an altuglass frame. In 1973, he introduced the now-iconic Togo, a collection of all-foam seating with generously quilted polyester covers. Its distinctive design allows it to seamlessly integrate into various interiors, and it continues to be one of Ligne Roset's best-sellers to this day.
