COVERAGE

Jean Paul Gaultier’s 1997 Autumn/Winter collection explored the relevantly chosen subject of social issues: to complete the slightly garish and at the same time design-wise intriguing garment selection, the eminent french designer created an array of graphic prints that aimed to protest against the significant problems such as war and racism. The models filled the runway dressed in classic striped three-piece suits, faux fur overcoats, graffiti jackets, washed brown leather trench coats, and dot print denim. Aside from clothing, according to the designer himself, an essential part in the show’s atmosphere was played by makeup and hairstyling: to complete the looks, alongside an unusual coiffure, Gaultier occasionally added peace sign tattoos and small jewelry.
