AUTUMN/WINTER 2004

Season Coverage

Both Yohji Yamamoto's AW04 Pour Homme and AW04 Y's for men collections are highly regarded amongst collectors, yet not much is spoken in terms of the actual runway show itself. A majority of pieces in both of the showcase follow a similar motif to Yamamoto's previous collections, with all black gabardine on the garments. The discerning point was on the buckles and zippers, an intentional hardware addition that modernizes his more traditional pieces such as the blazers by altering the silhouette in specific regards to its length or drape. Yohji's functional embellishments ethos are also exemplified in this collection, with the zippers and buckles changing the silhouette as it cinches or unzips. The obvious highlight of the Yohji Yamamoto AW04 Menswear show was the major collaboration with Dainese leathers. Leather racing jackets that featured the classic Y's monogram were debuted on his division line, whereas the Pour Homme pieces feature either classic cut blazers or embellished racing jackets that played with the brand's name, creating the terms 'Yohji Riders' or 'YamaMOTO'
