COVERAGE

Tom Ford's Spring 2004 collection at YSL epitomized a fusion of the twenties and thirties aesthetics. He reimagined Yves Saint Laurent's original designs by elongating and refining them, showcasing sinuous satins and chiffons. Ford's collection featured louchely draped satin suits in powder-blue, structured with wide hip fastenings and new-shaped loose pants. The synthesis of masculine and feminine elements was evident in his designs, such as pairing a low-belted trench with rib-cuffed jog pants and mixing petaled jersey skirts with skintight leather jackets. The revival of classic YSL smoking looks included tuxedos, white vests, and dressing gowns, all exuding a modern, sexually-in-control aesthetic. Combined with frizzed hairdos and high-heeled spectator shoes, Ford presented a new silhouette for the empowered, tall woman of the time.
