SS2002 is considered to be one the most iconic and recognizable Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme collections. Distinguishable looks are the CGI characters and rave-inspired prints produced by Saeko Tsuemura, well-known for her work featured in Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme, Autumn/Winter 1991. Interestingly enough, no one had mentioned explicitly this part of the collection at the time of the presentation. One critic noted however that Yohji's unique sense of humor added to the relaxed aspect of the collection. The prints of Japanese actresses from the early Showa period were heavily covered instead, and Japanese fashion critics even noted those were quite popular with Western journalists. I will come back on the subject in some of my next posts. What's more, one of the most important elements from this season is the extensive use of denim. It is rarely mentioned nowadays, but it was quite a drastic choice for Yohji Yamamoto, as denim had barely appeared in any of his earlier collections.
