Wild and Lethal Trash held its 1997 S/S collection in Paris, France, however it seemed as though the show emerged from the depths of outer space. Kicking off the show titled “Welcome Little Strangers” with a video of an otherworldly UFO traveling through space and eventually landing on Earth, the looks of S/S 97 followed suit via the theme of extraterrestrial models taking the runway. Beirendonck put together a true spectacle of models sporting a variety of earthly and celestial mashup looks. With alien races ranging from robotic cyberpunk rockstars and Woodstock hippies, to 90s boyband lookalikes and victorian hoop skirt women. The cosmic beings of W< left no Earthly aesthetic untouched. As the races exited one by one from their ship some walking, some gliding, and some flipping and dancing, the aliens leave the catwalk and make their way to the streets of Paris to flaunt their looks to the Parisian people and show-goers as all look about in awe. It appears as though the title Beirendonck imbued upon the collection, “Welcome Little Strangers”, was not meant to salute aliens to earth but to welcome the small minded people of Earth to otherworldly styles.
