AUTUMN/WINTER 2015

Season Coverage

After five years of gradually building the foundations of TheSoloist strictly from Japan, designer Takahiro Miyashita decided to showcase his newfound brand through Paris Fashion Week of 2015. The AW15 collection 'INTRO' was titled by Miyashita, presumably due to the brand's first show outside of Japan and what he sees as its real beginning; "A lot will change from now, it is only the beginning. Showing in Paris feels like it is the first collection. I know five years wasn't nothing, but I think that was the first, and the next one will be our second collection." (Takahiro Miyashita, The New Order Magazine).

For his AW15 collection, Miyashita continues to pursue his Western aesthetic execution, incorporating star-studded hardware, braided materials, and the most apparent use of the color black. "I had the decision to use black from the beginning, rather than shapes or other things, the color black. The reason is because black for me, is the hardest color, the color with the most disadvantages. So for our first track I couldn't think of anything else." (Takahiro Miyashita, The New Order Magazine). By utilizing various black materials, namely leather, Miyashita was able to objectify his seemingly limitless emotions through clothing alone.

In addition to such a meticulously detail-oriented collection, Miyashita also collaborated with cult mask maker Shin Murayama. Miyashita was initially drawn to his work when Murayama stated that he was not a fashion designer, but a mask artist; this clear distinction only made Miyashita more compelled to collaborate and witness the final products unfold.
