Tatsuro Horikawa’s second label “Julius” was inspired by the dream (or nightmare) he and many of his contemporaries had of “Neo-Tokyo.” This vision of metropolitan dystopia influenced many of his design decisions, and has continued to be a concise through-line that has kept him creating relevant tech-wear to this date.
Horikawa’s interest with militaristic accoutrement lead to the creation of the designer’s most iconic motif – a set of exaggerated kangaroo pockets deemed the “Gas Mask.” The first iteration of the design was released in 2005 during his august / winter mens collection. What began as a simple mirrored adornment on cargo pants has since been reimagined several times, embellishing a wide range of different silhouettes.
