COVERAGE
Helmut Lang continues his excellent track record of showcasing a covertly perverse luxury and traditional silhouettes intertwined with avant-garde and industrial elements in his Fall 2003 collection. Some of the jackets from the show that stood out were a mixture of different styles of bondage bombers, notably the metal MA-1. He embraced his obsession with military elements, incorporating design cues from aviation suits, harness belts as well as flight bombers. The models strutted down the runway, giving off the vibes of an almost futuristic space commander. Clothings were precisely tailored, and a colour palette of black, navy, grey, ecru and white allowed Lang to stay true to the minimalistic look he is known for. Metal infused nylon, corset-laced body knits, and safety harnesses, the sheer ingenuity of Lang is undeniable, as he manipulated form and functions, resulting in an amalgamation of grotesque beauty.
