General Research was an introspective experiment for designer Kobayashi Setsumasa, as “General” referred to the variating focus of his vision under the helm this label, and “Research” referred to his constant pursuit of new inspiration.The label’s seasonal output retrospectively details Kobayashi’s perspective on the contemporary political climate. Some of his most iconic work during this time reflected stateside issues pertaining to domestic terrorism and public surveillance.
He has never presented his label at trade fairs, yet it is sold in many different countries and has a strong international following. The silhouettes of his garments are that of a western cut, as they often fit quite oversized and boxy comparative to trendy slim fit of that time.
