AUTUMN/WINTER 2009

Season Coverage

Continuing off the previous season's inspirations, Miyashita stripped out the elements of whimsy and created a mood of faded glory and loneliness by darkening the palette, equipping models with beaded veils, and leaving tattered, unfinished edges on his clothing. By far, the most intricate and beautifully constructed collection of Number (N)ine, the collection perfectly mixed Victorian opulence with an eerie, derelict atmosphere. The looks have been described as "artfully tattered colonial-era costumes," "vagabonds and pirates," and "an out-of-the-blue, defiantly grandiose hybrid of 19th Century ranch workers and 18th-century dandies." Soon after showing, Number (N)ine announced its imminent closure to its long-time fans' shock. However, after a one-year hiatus, Miyashita returned with his new project Takahiro Miyashita The Soloist
