SPRING/SUMMER 2000

Season Coverage

"Summa Cum Laude" was the title of Raf Simons SS2000 collection, which is a term used sparingly by educational elites as honorary acclaim for students who exhibit a degree of high distinction. This, in of itself, signifies how this collection is yet another ode to youth, specifically caricatures of western teenagers in 80s campy cinema and Gabba's kids (also known as Gabber or Hardcore-Gabber) movement in Holland and Belgium. This calumniation of western and euro influences is simply the crux of Raf's early career. Highlights from this collection include recycled MA-1 Fostex bomber jackets with Gabba-influenced embellishments, and slim 3/4 cut tank tops adorned with graphics that referenced classic 80s horror films such as "Friday the 13th."
