Forever mesmerized by the fusion of fashion and contemporary art, Jun Takahashi of Undercover set upon himself to collaborate with soft sculpturist Anne-Valerie Dupond for the AW04 collection, ‘But Beautiful.’ The collaborative effort brought about exaggerated yet playful clothing, warping staple silhouettes into stuffed animal-like aesthetics and construction; look no further than mismatched buttons, visible white stitching, and construction that gifts the clothes with a sort of vibrancy felt from a children’s art book. This, combined with Jun Takahashi’s punk aesthetic and the legendary Patti Smith’s recorded poem created solely for the collection’s runway show, came together to form a visible form of music that put the eyes of the fashion world at awe.
